Where to find me
In print
Every Saturday in the Daily Telegraph – my latest column is here.
Every month in Olive magazine where I pick four delicious wines to drink with a particular dish.
Every Wednesday on Luxury, the Telegraph’s digital channel.
In person
The Culinary Anthropologist is a great friend who runs brilliant food classes in north London and from time to time she invites me along to run a booze night. We did two fun How to Drink with Chilli and Spice evenings earlier this year. Now we have a couple of How to Drink in Summer (it will be a wishful thinking summer holiday night) events coming up. In May. Book here.
100 champagne-heads accompanied me to Reims at the end of March to taste, drink, eat and gaze in admiration at the cathedral. We had a great time and some fantastic wines. I have a couple more wine holidays coming up, both for smaller, more intimate groups, one to Bordeaux in June and one to the Douro in September. Find them here.
On the radio
Just how good is English wine? If you didn’t catch me chatting to Sheila Dillon about home-grown fizz and rosé on BBC R4’s Food Programme on 28th July you can listen again here.

Surprisingly, I couldn’t find a copy online of your excellent article about France and England in today’s torygraph

I’m new to blog reading, but may now be hooked! Any chance of ideas for Corsican wines and the best growing regions in Corsica?
Planet Victoria
Yapp have some delicious Corsican wines, Victoria. I recently bought some of the white Saparale ’14 which was lovely with broad bean and pecorino and asparagus pasta.

We both enjoy reading your Saturday Telegraph column and learning of your experiences in the world of wine. We are “Naked Angels” and through this company are able to enjoy wines produced by small wine makers all over the world. We are so pleased that our contribution can enable these small producers realise their dream and individuality alongside the “Big Boys”.
Please send a copy of your Secret List

I’ve enjoyed reading your Telegraph column for what seems years now ! I’ve never seen you review any wine associated with Laithwaites, although I gather they won an award last year. Is it possible to do this in future, please?
Planet Victoria
Hi Gerald – It’s true that Laithwaites wines seldom make it into my column but that’s not for want of trying. I’ve been to rather a lot of their tastings and spent most of a day trying 100 or so wines without finding anything that made me want to write it up. There is a general agreement at the paper that my ‘wines of the week’ should be recommendations more than reviews, which means that you won’t read about wines I feel are either not good enough in terms of taste, or don’t offer the value that can be found elsewhere. I reckon I write up something like 5-10% of all the wines I try. As I wasn’t able to make their most recent tasting Laithwaites is sending me a case to try over the next couple of weeks so fingers crossed there will be something in it that hits the spot.

And I’ve seen the award they won. I once judged the merchant of the year awards for the IWC and let’s just say that having seen what goes on behind closed doors, I can see why the panel sometimes reaches quite surprising conclusions. I remember judging the supermarket of the year award and hearing one of the judges say that of course he didn’t buy wine in supermarkets, nor had he set foot in any of the contenders save for Waitrose and M&S over the last year.
